Early Warning

Another party, I've brought drink along
Another evening in a dreary throng,
I can't party when I'm feeling low.
Someone says "what a gorgeous dress",
I say it was designed to impress,
Well maybe it's not quite the time to go.
A little talking and a little chat,
Fascinated what I think of that,
So intent on what I've got to say,
Meeting eyes, I start to float,
Meeting mouths, then get my coat,
This could be the one who wants to stay.

Early warning,
He'll be different in the morning,
Take a moment now and reflect,
Early warning,
He'll be different in the morning,
You're old enough to know what to expect.

Back to his flat and there inside,
After an eventful taxi ride,
I suppose the taxi-driver's seen it all before,
And all those complimentary things been said,
And all those actions on the bed,
And such contentment on the floor.

Early warning,
He'll be different in the morning,
Wait and see just what the morning brings,
Early warning,
He'll be different in the morning,
You'll be waiting for a phone that never rings.

Now it's been over a week,
Something wrong with your technique?
But at the time he had seemed so keen,
And then after this lengthy snub,
You run into him in a pub,
It's silently agreed it's never been.

So you shrug, he's got bad taste,
Letting all that go to waste,
He's not the man who's gonna make you bleed.
What a thing humanity,
Mix of hope and vanity,
Of illusion, and hunger, and need.

Early warning,
He'll be different in the morning,
Once he's had you he'll drop you like a stone,
Early warning,
He'll be different in the morning,
So go home quietly alone.
